I’ll admit that American healthcare is expensive as the friggin’ Holy
Grail, but on the other hand, from what I’ve heard, free healthcare in the
countries that provide it will really make you wait if you need something
critical. My statistics teacher in high school was Irish, and he told me
that there were people who’d fly to the U.S. to get heart donors because
the waiting list in Ireland was months long and there was every likelihood
that they’d die before their number was called.?

Excellent analysis of why health care costs are so high. Americans pay more
in taxes per capita for health care than countries that provide free
universal health care for all of their citizens. Let me repeat that,
because it is worth repeating, Americans pay MORE in taxes per capita for
health care than citizens of countries that provide free universal health
care for ALL of their citizens. Why Are American Health Care Costs So High??

    Ugh… wrong near the end.
In a capitalistic system, you as a consumer would choose between providers
of healthcare. Companies would compete to lower costs, and thus negotiate
for lower device costs. When one company finds a way to lower costs or
improve quality, another company would step into play and do the same or
better. Another startup would come in with a better solution to a problem,
and bam, it would happen! The cycle continues. Capitalism is better than
centralization at ‘negotiating lower costs’. However, we have stifled this
awesome capitalistic works by barring entry into the market (regulatory
agencies, schools, etc) and making middlemen to costs (insurance,
    medicaid/care).?
